We ensure school designation and registration for homeless students for those students designating the school district of the last permanent residence. We make sure that all homeless children requiring special education are placed in an appropriate and timely fashion. Children eligible for kindergarten are enrolled prior to the onset of the academic year and all homeless pre-school children are enrolled in appropriate CPSE programs.

Some of the most impactful work of the Educational Success Program may take place before you come to campus. Reflect on your past as a student. What are your strengths? How would you like to improve? New Student Orientation contains different content from ESP, and it allows you to meet other students and faculty - and learn about various aspects of student life on campus.

Parents are encouraged to attend the family-focused programming, which is held right after students move onto campus. During this session, they will have an opportunity to learn more about the program and receive our parent support guide.

We require all students even commuters to stay on campus during ESP to ensure you get the program's maximum benefit. If you plan to live on campus, we will place you in your permanent room placement. Besides a commitment to your educational success, all students are free to bring whatever they plan to move into their rooms during the semester.

You may want to pack a variety of clothes, as some programming will be outside, and Michigan weather can be tricky in early August. We encourage you to bring a computer with a webcam for video conferencing capabilities. If you do not have a computer, please indicate this when you fill out your intake form to help you explore your options to get one. Director of Student and Residence Life Email: thomaso northwood.
