I bet it's a mitutoyo, especially after seeing they offer a VERY similar product. The shop I work at has new Fowler " thin-blade micrometer. In the past Fowler stuff was pretty good, usually rebadged Etalon or other European makers. This one is clearly a cheap POS. Micrometer It's a Mitutoyo, I have a set of them from ", bought em brand new in 19mumblemumble. Still use them every day. If you care to look you can see where Sears sells rebadged Mitutoyo micrometers and calipers currently. Yeah, Fowler started selling chinese stuff.
I have a couple Fowler 6" digital calipers, and they're both chinese made things like harbor freight sells. Allthough it does seem they are better than the chinese, quality control is WAY better, and they assemble them with a little more care.
The Fowler ones are at least not all sloppy because nobody tightened up the screws on the brass strip. They also make sure they don't have any bad connections, like dead sections of the digits, and it goes all whacky when you press on the case like the HF one I got a while back.
