Windows 7 will not detect wireless networks

Remove the power connection to the modem or router. If your device uses a battery, make sure you take the battery out. Wait for about a minute and then plug it to the power source again.

If the modem uses battery, put the battery back in. Now wait for about a minute or two for the modem and router to turn back on completely.

You should see all the lights back on. Now try to connect your PC with Wi-Fi again. Many modems come with built-in routers; if that is the case you will need to reset the modem only. If Wi-Fi is not working, there could be the problem with the ISP and probably everything is okay locally.

This is why it becomes important to identify if the ISP server is causing the problem or it is something else. Now, enter iPconfig on the command prompt and press enter. You will find the IP address by Default Gateway. Note down the IP address let's say it is Now you need to go back to the command prompt and type Ping If the Ping is alright and still you cannot connect to the Wi-Fi, it means that there is either something wrong with the Modem or the ISP.

But, you need to detect the problem first. This is why it is important to follow the troubleshooting steps that have been listed here. When I received the card, I swapped the with the , booted up the machine, and downloaded and installed the drivers from Dell's site. The adapter showed up immediately in Device Manager and in the network adapter list, however no wireless networks are detected by Windows.

I should also mention I am running Windows 7 Pro x Talking with Dell tech support yielded no better results as all they did was point me to Intel's site to downloaded the most up to date driver This driver did not help wireless networks to show up either, though the device manager seems to think the adapter is fine.

I decided to try booting up my laptop from my flash drive that has Ubuntu The Intel worked great under Ubuntu. This led Dell to believe that there is something wrong with the Windows installation and asked me to reformat my computer.

I would rather not reformat at this point, so I am looking for anything at all at this point. The only similar situation I found online was on an Intel support board and it appears the issue was never resolved.

I appreciate any help you might be able to provide. I use Dell computers quite a bit at the office, and most of the Intel cards use some type of Intel or Dell utility to detect wifi networks. That is what I have had to do in the past and just let Windows manage the wifi. Granted, this was in XP, and I could usually see the wifi networks and just not connect, it might give you somewhere to start. I suppose you could try a repair install of Windows too, but I'm not sure that would fix it.

Have you by any chance uninstalled the driver. When I have had similar issues with other Dell laptopsa I have resolved it by going to device manager and right clicking the wireless adapter and choosing uninstall. When it compltes the uninstall right click on any node and choose scan for new hardware, it should re-install the driver.

Hopefully it will display all the wireless networks available. My guess is that the Broadcom utility for your old wireless card has full control over WiFi on your Windows install and is blocking the Intel wireless card from being able to do anything. These utilities are very useful, but they tend to "take over" WiFi duties in Windows, in addition to having potential issues with multiple user accounts.

Personal preference if you even want the Intel utility installed. Any help or guidance? In addition, please try the following method:. Hamachi support advises that the virtual adapter is at the bottom in priorty for confilct advoidance reasons. It also advises that when changed on a wireless network you may get unpredictable results. Why does my internet connection fail when Hamachi is enabled?

I would suggest that you return the priorty to the default settings. Explore the Hamachi support for further information as this really isn't a Windows 7 issue, but a third-party application problem. Note: I do not do gaming but I do know to give a connection priority you adjust the metric.
