A weakness in the subtropical ridge is what is driving Isaac right now to the northwest, and that is expected to continue over the next couple days. Over this time it will also slow down, possibly bring very heavy rains to deep south. After that, the ridge will build back in, eventually sending the system northeastward and into the Ohio Valley.
